Pebble is in development
Built in Africa. Open to everyone.
Pebble is Open Leer Foundation's free educational AI initiative — multilingual, human-centred and designed for the places where access matters most.
Our mission
We are building a public-interest home for free educational AI: designed in Africa, useful across languages and devices, and accountable to the people it is meant to serve.
Learn moreWhy we build
Explanations, practice and discovery without a learner paywall.
Technology that accounts for language, devices, data cost and local responsibility.
Open, accountable work that others can inspect, improve and apply.
Our work
Our work connects trustworthy knowledge, learning experiences, evaluation and local access. Every initiative has an explicit status so a roadmap is never mistaken for a finished product.
Grounded learning story
A learner or responsible adult starts with a defined learning need.
The system identifies relevant, approved educational knowledge.
Only a small, useful context is selected for the task.
Pebble prepares an explanation or draft and makes its limits visible.
A person checks the output and decides what happens next.
This is an intended response pattern for a system in development. Retrieval can improve relevance; it does not make AI infallible.
Our commitment
Educational AI should strengthen people's capability, respect their judgement and make its own limits clear.
Core learning support should be available without a learner-facing fee.
Answers should use controlled, relevant knowledge and show their limits.
Safeguarding, privacy and human oversight belong in the design from the start.
Get involved
The most useful contributions start with context: a learner, educator or community; a responsibility; a constraint; and a clear idea of who remains accountable.
